What the filter reduces

Our best-selling filters help reduce chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals and sediment picked up in municipal pipes and home plumbing.

With regular use that supports healthier-feeling skin and hair, and lets your washing and care products do their job more effectively. Your shower water starts working with your body, not against it.

Irritation, dry skin, breakage or frizz? Your shower water could be a contributing factor — the chemicals added to water are known skin irritants that can create reactions with repeated exposure.

Multi-stage filtration in 3 simple steps

We are transparent about what goes into your water so you can trust what comes out with our shower filters

01 Sediment Reduction

Your water carries more than you might think. Before it reaches your skin, our first stage catches the particles you can't see, from coarse sand and the particles associated with limescale, down to fine dust, so nothing unwanted makes it through to your shower.

This is where your water is truly transformed. Three powerful media work together to reduce chlorine, trihalomethanes (THMs), and other harsh chemicals, the things that leave your skin dry, your hair dull, and your nails brittle.

A final layer of care ensures nothing escapes back into your water. Whether the cartridge is running normally or reversed, this stage keeps every captured particle and media where it belongs, inside the filter, not on your skin.

Hard water myth busters

What the SF500 actually does for hard water

In hard water areas, it’s rarely the minerals themselves people notice in the shower, it’s what tends to travel alongside them: more chlorine used to treat mineral-heavy water, and more sediment and heavy metals picked up from the pipes carrying it. The SF500 is built to reduce exactly those three things across three filtration stages. It won’t change your water’s hardness, but that’s usually the part people can feel, with or without a softener already in place.

Myth: Hard water means something’s wrong or contaminated in my water.

Fact: Hard water isn’t a defect, it’s naturally occurring water chemistry. It simply means the water carries higher levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium, picked up as it travels through rock and soil long before it reaches a treatment plant or your home. That’s different from chlorine and chloramine, which are added during municipal treatment for disinfection, and different again from sediment and heavy metals, often picked up from aging pipes. If softer-feeling skin and kinder hair is what you’re after, it’s that second and third group that matters most, and that’s exactly what the SF500 is built to reduce.

Myth: If it doesn’t soften my water, there’s no real reason to buy it.

Fact: Softening and filtering solve two different problems, and hard water areas usually have both. What most people actually want from their shower, skin that doesn’t feel tight afterward, hair that holds its shine, no chemical smell, comes from reducing chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals and sediment, not from adjusting mineral content. That’s what the SF500 does, and a softener can’t. If the way your skin and hair feel after a shower is the real frustration, this is the product built to solve it, softener or not.

Myth: This filter will soften my water.

Fact: A water softener and a shower filter do different jobs. Softening uses ion exchange to remove the calcium and magnesium that make water “hard”, a shower filter can’t do that. What the SF500 does instead is reduce chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals and sediment, the contaminants most likely to leave skin and hair feeling worse for wear. Plenty of customers run both together, letting each do the job it’s built for.

Myth: I already have a water softener, so this filter won’t do anything extra.

Fact: It’s the opposite. Softened water can still carry chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals and sediment, none of which a softener touches. The SF500 targets exactly those, so skin and hair get the benefit of both a softener and a filter rather than just one. The one thing it won’t do is remove the dissolved salt a softening system adds, that’s a different job for a different device.

Myth: It filters chlorine, so it must filter fluoride too.

Fact: It doesn’t, and there’s a specific reason why. Fluoride isn’t easily absorbed through skin and isn’t released into the air the way chlorine is, so a shower barely exposes you to it in the first place. Chlorine, by contrast, does become airborne and is absorbed through skin in a hot shower, which is exactly why reducing it, and helping skin and hair feel less exposed to it, is where the SF500 focuses its filtration. Fluoride in drinking water needs a dedicated kitchen filter or reverse osmosis system.

Myth: A TDS meter will show whether this is working on my hard water.

Fact: A TDS meter measures dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, not chlorine or chloramine, which is what the SF500 is designed to reduce. Because those contaminants don’t affect conductivity, your TDS reading won’t move either way, even while the filter is doing exactly what it’s built for. Chlorine test strips are the accurate way to see the difference, and how your skin and hair feel after a shower is usually the more noticeable one.

Myth: If limescale is still building up on my glass or showerhead, the filter has failed.

Fact: Limescale comes specifically from calcium and magnesium, and no shower filter, ours included, removes or prevents it. Seeing white residue continue to form isn’t a sign the filter has stopped working, it’s a separate issue from the chlorine, sediment and heavy metals the SF500 targets to keep your skin and hair feeling cared for.

Myth: Well water doesn’t have what shower filters remove, so there’s no point.

Fact: Well water usually skips municipal chlorine, but it often carries more sediment, iron and heavy metals than treated water does, exactly what can leave skin dry and hair feeling heavy. The SF500’s two rinseable external sediment guards were specifically built to handle that heavier load, so well water households get the same skin- and hair-friendly filtration as anyone else.

Myth: Slower water pressure over time means hard water damaged the filter.

Fact: That’s the filter doing its job, not failing at it. As sediment, iron and other particles get trapped inside, the media gradually fills up, which is exactly why the cartridge is rated for 3–6 months rather than left in indefinitely (sooner if you’re on well water or in a heavy-sediment area). A fresh cartridge keeps both the flow and the skin- and hair-feel benefits consistent.
